Live Correspondent: The High Court on Wednesday asked the government to form a high powered committee, headed by a district judge, to investigate the arrest of a female government servant n Naogaon on March 22 without any case and her death in the custody of the Rapid Action Battalion two days later.

Sultana Jasmine, 45, an office assistant of Chandipur union parishad land office in Nagaon Sadar, died in Rajshahi Medical College Hospital on March 24 under the custody of the Rapid Action Battalion after she was picked up by the elite force in Noagaon.

The court asked the cabinet secretary to carry out the order and submit the probe report to the court within 60 days.

The court also asked the government to withdraw the RAB members who were involved in picking up Jesmine and interrogating her without producing her before a court.

A bench of Justice Farah Mahbub and Justice Mohammad Mahbub Ul Islam  issued the directive after hearing a writ petition filed by lawyer Manoj Kumar Bhowmick, seeking action against the battalion’s members involved in the extra-judicial killing.

The court also asked the government to explain in four weeks why picking Jesmine up by a RAB microbus on her way to office on the morning of March 22 and the Battalion’s subsequent action on her should not be declared as illegal.
