139 more contract coronavirus in Bangladesh

Live Correspondent: Bangladesh on Sunday reported 139 new cases of the novel coronavirus, bringing the country's tally to 621.However, the death toll stood at 34 after four more people died from the virus, officially known as COVID-19, according to the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR).

In DGHS bulletin on coronavirus, IEDCR director prof Meerjady Sabrina Flora said samples of 1,251 people were examined in the last 24 hours and of them 139 tested positive for the virus.

Out of the four deceased, three were men and one was woman, Flora said, adding that three more patients recovered from the deadly virus, taking the country's total recovery to 39.

Joining the bulletin, the Directorate General of Health Services additional director general prof Dr Sania Tahmina said as many as 20,525 people are now maintaining quarantine across the country.

Bangladesh first reported its coronavirus cases on March 8. Since then the country has been witnessing increase in the infections and deaths.COVID first emerged in the Chinese city of Wuhan in December last year, and then spread to 210 countries and territories.

As of Sunday, the epidemic infected 1,784,335 people and killed 108,962 across the globe, according to Worldometer, a website which compiles number of new coronavirus cases and deaths from it. However, total recovery from the coronavirus pandemic reached 405,043 across the world.
