Coronavirus cases surpass 87K in Bangladesh

Live Correspondent: The tally of coronavirus cases crossed 87,000-mark in Bangladesh on Sunday as the fresh infections surged again in the last 24 hours.
Prof Nasima Sultana, additional director general of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), said 3,141 more people tested positive for coronavirus in the last 24 hours as of 2:30pm on Sunday.

Speaking at a press briefing, Nasima said the total number of coronavirus cases in the country now increased to, 87,520 with the fresh ones.New infections saw a rise by 285 than Saturday’s 2,856 although there was a decree in the number of tests. During the period, 14,505 samples were tested against 16,638 on Saturday.

Prof Dr Nasima said 32 more people died from coronavirus in the last 24 hours, climbing the death toll in the country to 1,171.Of the new deceased, 27 are men while five are women. Prof Nasima said 903 more patients recovered from COVID-19 disease in the last 24 hours, taking the number of people making recovery to 18,730.

She said 14,505 samples were tested in 60 labs across the country during the period. With this, a total of 504,465 samples have so far been tested in the country. In comparison with the tests conducted in the last 24 hours, the infection rate is 21.65 percent, she said.

The DGHS additional director general also said against the total number of detected cases, the recovery rate is 21.40 while mortality rate is 1.34. On Saturday, Bangladesh recorded 44 deaths from coronavirus and 2,856 cases.

Meanwhile, coronavirus cases continued to surge around the world reaching 7,861,333 as of Sunday morning. Besides, the global death toll from Covid-19 has stood at 432,204, according to Worldometer.

Of the currently infected 3,393,058 patients, 3,338,976 are in mild condition while 54,082 are in serious or critical condition.
