Covid-19: 173 more die, 7,614 new cases detected

 

Live Correspondent: Marking another grim Eid under the shadow of a pandemic and amid growing concerns about the highly infectious delta variant, Bangladesh reported 173 virus deaths in the last 24 hours until 8:00 am on Wednesday, taking the death count to 18,498.

During this timeline, 7,614 fresh cases were reported, taking the total virus cases to 11,36,503. Health authorities also reported 9,704 more recoveries over the preceding 24 hours, taking the total number of recoveries to 9,61,044, according to data released by the government.

In the last 24 hours, 639 coronavirus testing laboratories across the country collected 25,625 samples and tested 24,979. With this, a total of 73,64,888 samples were tested in the country.

Among 173 deaths, 98 are male and 75 female, a press release said, adding that 58 are from Dhaka division, 32 from Chattogram, 11 from Rajshahi, 38 from Khulna, eight from Barishal, six from Sylhet, 16 from Rangpur, and four from Mymensingh.

The infection rate is 30.48 percent in the last 24 hours, compared to the samples tested, while the overall infection rate is 15.43 percent.
So far, the recovery rate is 84.56 percent and the mortality rate is 1.63 percent. Among 98 deaths, 62 are male and 36 female, the press release said, adding that two in their 10s, are in their 20s, two in their 30s, 14 in their 40s, and 20 are in their 50s while 59 are above 60 years.

China reported its first death from the novel coronavirus in Wuhan, the capital of Central China’s Hubei province, on January 11 last year.
Bangladesh reported its first coronavirus case on March 8 last year and the first death on March 18 the same year.
